Mushtaq Ahmed, who has been working closely with the team, highlighted Shakib’s positive influence on the younger players, particularly those who are touring Pakistan for the first time.
Along with other senior players like Mushfiqur Rahim and Taskin Ahmed, Shakib has been playing a crucial role in mentoring and supporting the younger members of the squad.
“Shakib and even Mushfiq and Taskin they are all supportive of the youngsters in the team specially those touring Pakistan for the first time,” Mushtaq told media in a press conference, as quoted by PTI.
The spin coach described the current Bangladesh team as a “coachable” side, emphasizing the players’ enthusiasm for learning and improving their tactics and strategies, adding, “By this I mean the players are enthusiastic to improve and listen to you and learn about tactics and strategies. I hope I can make a positive impact for them.”
While Shakib’s return to the national team has garnered attention due to his political background, Mushtaq insisted that the senior players, including Shakib, Mushfiqur, and Taskin, are focused on fostering a supportive environment for the younger players. Their experience and guidance are invaluable assets for the team’s growth and success.
Mushtaq also acknowledged the quality of the Bangladesh team, highlighting their talented players and the emergence of promising pace bowlers.
“They have some good quality players and they now have some good pace bowlers as well and I think they are on the right path. They just need to have self belief they can do better overseas,” he added.
