Pakistan secured a convincing victory against Australia in the final One Day International at Perth Stadium, claiming the series 2-1.
The win marked Pakistan’s first ODI series victory on Australian soil since 2002.
Australia, opting to prioritize their upcoming Test series against India, rested several key players, fielding a less experienced lineup.
Pakistan won the toss and elected to field first, a decision that quickly paid off as their pace attack ripped through Australia’s batting order.
Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah spearheaded the attack, each claiming three wickets and showcasing their impressive pace and swing.
“Underscoring the diminished standing of the 50-over format, Australia chose to rest their red-ball players for the decider as preparations ramp up for a blockbuster five-test series against India beginning Nov. 22.”
Jake Fraser-McGurk and Aaron Hardie offered some resistance, but Australia struggled to build substantial partnerships.
Haris Rauf continued his impressive form, taking two crucial wickets, while Mohammad Hasnain’s searing delivery forced Cooper Connolly to retire hurt.
Australia were eventually bowled out for a paltry 140 runs in 31.5 overs.
Sean Abbott top-scored for Australia with 30 runs, but the home side’s batting performance was largely disappointing.
Pakistan’s chase was clinical and controlled.
Openers Saim Ayub (42) and Abdullah Shafique (37) picked up where they left off in the previous match, building a solid foundation with an 84-run partnership.
Lance Morris provided a brief moment of excitement for the home crowd, dismissing both openers in quick succession.
However, Mohammad Rizwan (30 not out) and Babar Azam (28 not out) ensured a comfortable victory for Pakistan, reaching the target in 26.5 overs with eight wickets in hand.
Pakistan’s dominant performance in the ODI series serves as a confidence booster ahead of their upcoming T20 series against Australia, scheduled to begin in Brisbane on Thursday.
