NEW DELHI: It was a double delight for Delhi Capitals on Monday as they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against Lucknow Super Giants at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Eyebrows were raised when KL Rahul, Delhi Capitals’ newest high-profile signing, was not included in the playing XI. However, the reason soon became clear when Rahul’s wife, actor Athiya Shetty, announced the arrival of their baby girl through a social media post.

Rahul had missed Delhi Capitals’ opening game to be with his family for the birth of his child. The couple, who tied the knot in January 2023, had confirmed their pregnancy in November 2024.
Following their thrilling win, Delhi Capitals players celebrated the joyous news in a unique way inside their dressing room. The squad broke into dance, playfully mimicking the gesture of holding a baby in their arms while showering Rahul with congratulations.
DC shared a video of the heartfelt celebration on their social media handle with the caption, “Our family extends, our family celebrates.”

On the field, Delhi Capitals pulled off a dramatic one-wicket victory, thanks to impact substitute Ashutosh Sharma‘s 66 not out off 31 balls. He finished the chase in style, smashing a massive six off Shahbaz Ahmed as DC successfully chased 210 with three balls to spare.
At one stage, DC were struggling at 7 for 3 and later 113 for 6, but Ashutosh and Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15) added 55 crucial runs before Ashutosh sealed the win despite wickets tumbling around him.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals’ bowlers restricted Lucknow Super Giants to 209 for 8 on a batting-friendly pitch. Mitchell Marsh (72) and Nicholas Pooran (75) starred for LSG, but Kuldeep Yadav (2 for 20) and Mitchell Starc (3 for 42) ensured DC had a manageable target to chase.
