‘More focused on newer Indian players’: Josh Hazlewood ahead of Border-Gavaskar Trophy | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Australia’s strategy for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy will focus on India’s newer Test players, according to fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood.
In an interview with Star Sports, Hazlewood stated that while Australia are well-acquainted with experienced players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, they will study the less familiar talents such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.
“The strategy is probably more focused on the newer players we haven’t played much Test cricket against, like Jaiswal and even Shubman Gill, who we’ve only faced a few times. We’ve played against Virat, Rohit, and others for years, so we know what to do,” Hazlewood said.
The five-match series between India and Australia will begin on November 22 in Perth and will include matches in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. India have won the previous two series in Australia.

Hazlewood, reflecting on the need for basic planning in Test cricket, said, “The plan doesn’t really change that often. It’s about the basics — doing them well and for a long time. We usually find that, 9 out of 10 times, Test cricket comes back to that Plan A. You adapt to conditions and change things throughout the day or innings, but most of the time, it’s about executing that plan.”
