IPL: When Kolkata Knight Riders got less prize money than what they paid to buy Mitchell Starc | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for a record Rs 24.75 crore in the players’ auction December last year.
And KKR went on to win their third IPL title with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in a lopsided final at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai on May 26.
KKR bowled out Sunrisers Hyderabad for the lowest total in an IPL final, just 113 runs, as Australia’s left-arm quick Starc shone brightly, claiming figures of 2-14, reaffirming his status as one of the premier bowlers in the world’s most lucrative T20 tournament.
Starc concluded the IPL with two standout performances, including a match-winning 3-34 in the first playoff against the same opponent.
Starc was adjudged Man of the Match for his fiery spell.
And now a video is going viral where Starc is seeing in a talk show saying that his team KKR got less prize money for winning the IPL title than what he got at the auction.
The video has Starc saying, “The IPL Final presentation didn’t start until the midnight & basically killed the vibe. Then cheques for winning team came over, it had INR 20CR price. Angkrish (Raghuvanshi) looked at that and said – Huh! it’s not even what you got paid.”

The 2024 title victory marked KKR’s second title triumph in Chennai, following their maiden trophy win in 2012.
After KKR bowled Sunrisers out for a paltry 113, it was Starc who stole the spotlight, claiming the wicket of in-form Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma for just two runs with a delivery that pitched in the middle and clipped the top of the off stump.
The top order of Sunrisers faltered, with Travis Head departing for a duck, caught behind off the bowling of fast bowler Vaibhav Arora.
Starc struck again, leaving the opposition reeling at 47-4 within seven overs.
