Change in ACC presidency as Shammi Silva takes over role from Jay Shah

NEW DELHI: Shammi Silva, the former chairman of the Asian Cricket Council‘s (ACC) Finance & Marketing Committee, has assumed the presidency of the ACC, succeeding Jay Shah of India.
Shah vacated the position after serving three terms as ACC President, following his recent appointment as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
In a statement, Silva expressed his honour in leading the ACC and acknowledged cricket’s significance as the heartbeat of Asia.
He pledged to work closely with all member nations to elevate the game, provide opportunities for emerging talent, and strengthen the bonds that unite the region through this beloved sport.

“It is a great honour to lead the Asian Cricket Council. Cricket is the heartbeat of Asia, and I look forward to working closely with all member nations to elevate the game, provide opportunities for emerging talent, and strengthen the bonds that unite us through this beautiful sport,” Silva said in a statement.

On behalf of the ACC, Silva extended gratitude to Shah for his exemplary leadership and significant contributions during his tenure.
The ACC highlighted Shah’s achievements, including securing the highest value for the commercial rights of ACC Asia Cup tournaments from 2024 to 2031, introducing a new pathway events structure, and contributing to the continued development and growth of cricket across member nations.
“Under Mr Shah’s stewardship, the ACC achieved remarkable milestones, including the successfully achieving highest value for its commercial rights of ACC Asia Cup tournaments for 2024–31, the introduction of a new pathway events structure, and the continued development and growth of cricket across its member nations,” the ACC said.
