NEW DELHI: West Indies opener Brandon King’s future in the ICC T20 World Cup is uncertain after he sustained a side strain during the match against England in St Lucia on Thursday. The severity of the injury and the limited duration of the tournament remaining are of great concern.
King scored 23 off 12 balls and hit a massive 101-metre six off Reece Topley.The injury occurred on his 13th ball when he attempted a shot off Sam Curran. He collapsed after taking one more step and had to leave the field with medical assistance.

He did not return for the remainder of the game, and Shimron Hetmyer substituted as a fielder during England’s run chase. Cricket West Indies confirmed the extent of his injury.
“Brandon King has suffered a side strain and will not return to the field of play in this evening’s match,” CWI stated in a release on X.

The West Indies are now set to play their second Super Eight match against the USA at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Friday.
