NEW DELHI: Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has expressed uncertainty regarding his participation in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, scheduled to be played in the UAE from November 6.
Shakib indicated that he has not yet received any communication from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) about whether he will be included in the squad.
Speaking to Cricbuzz on Monday, Shakib said, “How can I tell [whether I will play the ODIs against Afghanistan]? BCB should tell about it.”
According to Cricbuzz, while Shakib is ready to represent Bangladesh if selected, doubts remain in certain sections of the board about including him, given his frequent absences from the country.
The BCB’s selection panel has also voiced its uncertainty, confirming that they have not received any clear instructions from higher authorities regarding Shakib’s availability. It is expected that the final decision will be made by the BCB’s senior officials in the coming days.
Shakib, who previously announced his retirement from Test cricket and T20 Internationals during Bangladesh’s Test series against India in September, had hoped to play his final Test match at home against South Africa. However, he chose not to return for the South Africa series due to security concerns amid political unrest in Bangladesh.
Despite being accused in a murder case related to the unrest, Shakib was allowed to continue playing in the Test series against India, with the BCB permitting him to remain with the national team until proven guilty.
