Bangladesh announce Test squad for India tour

NEW DELHI: Due to a groin injury sustained in Pakistan, Bangladesh pacer Shoriful Islam will miss this month’s two-Test series in India, the nation’s cricket board announced on Thursday.
After winning both of the Tests in Pakistan, Bangladesh is riding high after defeating their Asian rivals in a Test series for the first time.
The 23-year-old Shoriful, who took three wickets in the first Test in Rawalpindi, was injured and was unable to play in the second match.
“Left-arm paceman Shoriful Islam is still recovering from a groin injury and was unavailable for the series,” the Bangladesh Cricket Board said as per Reuters after naming a 16-member squad for the India tour.
Although Litton Das is expected to maintain the gloves after smashing a match-winning century in the second Test against Pakistan, Jaker Ali Anik has been roped in as the backup wicketkeeper.
September 19 marks the start of the first Test in Chennai, while September 27 marks the start of the second match in Kanpur.
India is seven places ahead of Bangladesh in the official Test rankings published by the ICC and leads the World Test Championship standings.
Rohit Sharma‘s India will play three Tests at home against New Zealand after taking on Bangladesh, and then they will head to Australia for a five-match Test series.
