NEW DELHI: India has achieved yet another remarkable milestone in Test cricket by becoming the fastest team to score 200 runs in an innings. This feat came soon after Indian batters broke records for the fastest fifty and fastest hundred in the longest format of the game during the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday.
The explosive batting lineup, known for its attacking mindset, displayed aggressive intent against the opposition, allowing them to break Australia’s record and set a new benchmark for the quickest 200 runs in Test history.
India attained the feat in 24.2 overs, bettering Australia’s 28.1 overs which they did against Pakistan at Sydney in 2017.
Batting maestro Virat Kohli did it in style with a big six straight back down the ground.
Soon after, India also became the fastest team to reach 250 in Tests bettering the 33.6 overs by England against Pakistan in Rawalpindi in 2022.
The foundation for this extraordinary achievement was laid by Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who capitalized on favorable conditions and showcased fearless cricket.
Captain Rohit was dismissed soon after India registered the first instance of a team scoring 50 runs inside the first three overs in a Test match.
Rohit hit 3 sixes and a four in his 11-ball 23 before falling to Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
But his captain’s dismissal didn’t deter Jaiswal one bit as he continued his blazing knock against Bangladesh.
Jaiswal got to his fifty off just 31 balls equalling the record of Shardul Thakur for the third fastest fifty for India in Test cricket.
Jaiswal, who got out after scoring 51-ball 72, continued his onslaught even after getting to his landmark hitting sixes at will as India became the first team to hit 90 sixes in a calendar year in Test cricket.
