Head coach Gautam Gambhir gives batting tips to Sanju Samson on first day in office | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, took charge on Tuesday as the team began their first practice session in Pallekele, in preparation for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Gambhir, who has taken over from the esteemed Rahul Dravid, led the team onto the field and supervised the training session, which included fielding exercises and one-on-one interactions with the players.
The practice session primarily focused on running, catching, and individual discussions. Suryakumar Yadav, the new T20I captain, also engaged in interactions with the team members, as reported by PTI.

During the session, Gambhir was observed providing batting advice to Sanju Samson and conversing with all-rounder Shivam Dube.
Gambhir’s coaching staff for the Sri Lanka tour includes former India all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and Dutch batter Ryan ten Doeschate. The three had recently worked together to guide the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to victory in the IPL 2024.
Their debut assignment with the national team will begin on July 27 with the T20I series, followed by three ODIs.
T Dilip, who was part of Dravid’s support staff, will retain his position as the fielding coach. Furthermore, Sairaj Bahutule, who is affiliated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, will act as the interim bowling coach.
