The coming mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) may force Australia’s assistant coach, Daniel Vettori, to leave early from the Perth Test — according to a report on ‘WAtoday’.
Vettori, who is part Andrew McDonald’s coaching staff with the Australian team, is the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad and is likely to travel to Jeddah for the two-day IPL players’ auction on November 24-25. The opening Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy begins on November 22 in Perth.
Also missing their duties as expert commentators for Channel Seven could be Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer.
Ponting has moved on from Delhi Capitals and has bagged a coaching job with Kings XI Punjab. Langer is the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants.
Vettori has a different contract with Cricket Australia (CA) as compared to the head coach McDonald who has a full-time contract, says the ‘WAtoday’ report. Unlike Vettori’s, CA’s contract with McDonald “requires him to be available for a set number of days”.
The report also mentions that a decision on Vettori leaving early or not from the Perth Test was not made as of Wednesday morning.
