Playing only his second Test, Akash looked good during his brief stay, which involved the above-mentioned incident when Hasan Mahmud tried a direct hit in an attempt to run out the Indian tailender and the ball struck smack in his back.

Replays showed Akash was well inside the popping crease and it was a needless throw. After a brief halt in play to ensure it didn’t result in a serious injury, the play resumed. But the break disturbed Akash’s focus, and he was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed while attempting a big shot, which only landed in the hands of skipper Najmul Shanto at mid-off.
Akash scored 17 and added 24 runs for the eighth wicket with Ashwin.
Interestingly, an almost similar incident happened on day one of the match, when Pant expressed his anger at a misdirected throw.
It led to a few words being exchanged between Pant and Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das, and the conversation was caught on the stump microphone.
“Mere ko kyu maar rahe ho? (why are you hitting me)” a visibly annoyed Pant told Das, to which the Bangladesh stumper replied: “Woh to maarega hi na (the fielder has to throw).”
After Akash Deep was dimissed, India’s score read 367 for 8, which didn’t look a possibility after the hosts had slipped to 144 for 6 on day one. But a 199-run partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja turned the tables on the visitors.
Ashwin was eventually dismissed for 113, after which India were bowled out for 376 as paceman Mahmud took the last wicket of Jasprit Bumrah (7) to complete his five-wicket haul.
